The Baylor English Department and Baylor University Press will welcome to campus world-renowned Irish poet and Baylor University Press author Micheal O’Siadhail for a poetry reading from his new book, "Desire" (a quartet of poems which addresses the pressing global concerns of our times). The event will take place on Tuesday, March 19th, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm, at the Armstrong Browning Library. Doors open at 3:30 pm.
O’Siadhail is widely revered for integrating biblical and theological reflection into his poetic craft and is perhaps Ireland's best-known living poet. "Desire" is Baylor University Press' fifth volume of poetry by O’Siadhail. His previous book with the Press, "The Five Quintets", was lauded by one reviewer as “the most important work of English-language literature to be published so far this century,” and was the winner of the Eric Hoffer Book Award in the small press category.
This represents Micheal O'Siadhail's third poetry reading on Baylor University's campus. Expansive and poignant, O'Siadhail's poetry regularly engages the work of some of the greatest minds who have ever lived. His mastery of verse, language, and spoken word elevate his live performances significantly. Baylor University's students will benefit from O'Siadhail's poetry, and they will experience, perhaps for the first time, the spiritual nature of lyrical poetry.
All who attend are welcome to join for a reception and book signing after the event in the Cox Reception Hall.
