Parlor Talk at the Arts & Special Collections Research Center

This exhibit aims to provide context for Baylor’s rich Victorian music holdings—both our 1880
Chickering square piano and the Spencer Sheet Music Collection of 19th and early-
20th-century popular sheet music. It highlights the role of the parlor in domestic, social, and
musical life in Victorian America through a presentation of some of its material artifacts: sheet
music and games enjoyed there, calling cards exchanged, etiquette manuals, albums, and more.
