The Learning Design Team supports the creation of non-credit learning experiences through collaboration with Baylor Extended Learning, faculty, and university partners. These projects are designed to extend Baylor’s educational reach while providing learners with engaging, mission-aligned opportunities for professional and continuing education.

Overview
The Learning Design Team partners with Baylor Extended Learning to support faculty and academic units with creating high-quality non-credit academic offerings that extend Baylor’s educational reach. These may include Extended Learning courses, professional certificates, or other continuing education programs that provide learners with meaningful, mission-aligned experiences.
Examples of Extended Learning Projects
- Professional development workshops or certificates
- Continuing education programs for industry professionals
- Specialized academic training for targeted audiences
Please note: All non-credit academic courses require prior approval from the Extended Learning Office before entering the Learning Design process. This ensures alignment with institutional goals, registration pathways, and learner support services. Additionally, you may reach out to extendedlearning@baylor.edu.
Overview
The Learning Design Team works with departments and administrative units to design effective, learner-centered non-academic training that meets compliance, onboarding, and institutional education needs. These projects ensure that all learners receive essential information in a clear, engaging, and accessible format.
Examples of Non-Academic Projects
- Compliance training (Title IX, HIPAA, FERPA)
- HR onboarding programs for new employees
- Campus safety or emergency preparedness training
- Institutional initiatives requiring campus-wide education

The Playbook is a practical guide for faculty, departments, and university partners collaborating with the Learning Design team to create impactful non-credit and Extended Learning experiences at Baylor University. More than a process document, the Playbook outlines how we work together to transform expertise into engaging, accessible, and mission-aligned learning opportunities that extend Baylor’s educational reach beyond the traditional classroom.

The Five Stage Process for Non-Credit Program Design
- Project Intake Form & Scoping - Discuss program goals, audience, and scope with faculty and the Extended Learning Office
- Scoping Document Interview/Project Level Determination - Define deliverables, milestones, roles, and design hours required based on the level of complexity.
- Project Preparation & Kickoff - The kick-off meeting brings together all stakeholders to establish alignment on course goals, review the design process, identify media needs, and set expectations for ongoing collaboration and future meetings.
- Design & Development - Create engaging, accessible content and integrate multimedia, activities, and quality checks.
- Project Handoff & Closeout - Test the course, finalize details, prepare for delivery to learners, and introduce the course leaders to the available support teams.
