The Brownings
The focus of the Armstrong Browning Library is intrinsically linked to the Victorian poets, Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Marrying late in their careers, the Brownings considered themselves fortunate when they became the parents of a son who they lovingly called Pen, his full name being Robert Wiedeman Barrett Browning. He was destined to become an artist and sculptor and nine of his paintings and one piece of sculpture are on display in the Armstrong Browning Library. To enjoy a view of Pen's artistic ability, please visit the Paintings & Drawings and the Sculpture areas of the Art and Artifacts section of this site.
It is our goal to acquaint you with the Brownings and to inspire you to learn more about them and to acquire an appreciation of their poetry. We invite you to study their short biographies, the Brownings' selected poetry, and the composite of quick facts for important dates and occurrences.
