Instruction Sessions

The Armstrong Browning Library’s unique architecture and collections of art, artifacts, decorative arts and furnishings, journals and magazines, letters, manuscripts, memorabilia, musical scores, portraits, rare books, textiles, theological pamphlets, and tracts can be tailored for an instruction session specific to your students’ or group members’ field of study.

Visits by Baylor credit courses whose scheduled meeting times are outside of the Library’s regular hours will be accommodated based on staff availability.

Potential Instruction Sessions

• Research Skills – how to find special collections resources utilizing online discovery tools with subject librarian.
• Primary Source Literacy – how to analyze primary sources, historical sources, or 3-dimensional artifacts (archives, rare books, & artworks, etc.) for research assignments.
• Special Topics – activities utilizing historical resources to provide in-depth learning opportunities relevant to course content.
• Bibliography / Writing as a Process – draws from the Browning’s personal library, correspondence, manuscripts, proofs, publications, and various editions of published works to teach students the phases of the writing process.
• Tours – typically provide a history of the collection and building along with an introduction to the Brownings but can be tailored to a specific academic discipline or topic by special request. Elementary and middle school groups please contact Rachel Bates to schedule a tour.
