Collaborating on Research Grants
Securing a research grant that includes a teaching, training, or outreach component? The Learning Design team is here to help you design high-impact learning experiences that strengthen your proposal and increase your project's impact.
How We Support Grant-Funded Projects
Our team partners with faculty and staff to design, implement, and assess the educational and instructional elements of grant proposals. Whether you're designing a new course, developing professional development materials, or creating public-facing learning resources, we offer:
- Proposal Development Support
We collaborate during the proposal-writing stage to help articulate instructional goals, outline learning strategies, and provide language for grant narratives and budgets. - Learning Design Consultation
We bring evidence-based learning design principles to your project, ensuring that instructional goals align with desired outcomes for learners. - Digital Learning Strategy & Tool Selection
We assist in identifying appropriate digital platforms, tools, and delivery formats that support scalable, accessible, and engaging learning experiences. - Learning Assessment & Evaluation
We help design assessment strategies to measure learning effectiveness and project impact, including formative and summative evaluation approaches. - Ongoing Development & Implementation Support
Once funded, we continue to collaborate throughout the project lifecycle—from content development to delivery and refinement.
Types of Projects We Support
We offer support for a range of grant-funded learning initiatives, including:
- Course and curriculum development
- Online or hybrid instructional programs
- Community or K-12 educational outreach
- Professional development or training modules
- Open educational resources (OER)
Important Consideration for Grant Proposals
- To ensure we can commit the appropriate time and resources to your project, the Director of Learning Design must review your grant application prior to submission. This review allows us to assess the scope of work, confirm alignment with available support capacity, and provide necessary documentation for your proposal.
- Please note: We can only guarantee Learning Design services if the proposal has been reviewed and approved by the Director in advance of submission.
Post-Award Collaboration
After your grant has been awarded, our team will coordinate with you to initiate the design and development process. This typically includes:
- A kickoff meeting to review deliverables, timelines, and team roles
- Project planning to align learning objectives, design strategies, and evaluation methods
- Iterative content development, including design reviews and quality assurance
- Regular check-ins to monitor progress, manage resources, and ensure alignment with grant milestones
- Documentation and reporting support, as needed for your funder or institution
To ensure clarity and shared expectations, after the kickoff meeting a Statement of Work (SOW) will be developed outlining the scope, timeline, and deliverables for the learning design components of the project. Additionally, a Service Level Agreement (SLA) will define the level of ongoing support available after the initial design and delivery, including timelines for iterative updates and maintenance.
We view grant-funded collaborations as long-term partnerships. Our team is committed to supporting the success of your educational goals from initial planning to final delivery—and beyond.
Start a Conversation
We recommend involving our team early in your proposal process. This allows us to collaborate on instructional goals, help scope the work, and provide cost estimates for inclusion in the budget.
