Waco History to host “Waco Founding: Your Hunt, Your History” scavenger hunt
WACO, Texas (August 23, 2021) –Waco History, a collaboration between Baylor University’s Institute for Oral History and The Texas Collection, will host an inaugural scavenger hunt on August 28 at the Downtown Waco Farmers’ Market. The event, “Waco Founding: Your Hunt, Your History,” will encourage players to decipher clues, complete missions, and learn more about Waco’s early days through interaction with the free Waco History app.
“We have been building content on the Waco History App for years,” said Dr. Stephen Sloan, director of the Institute for Oral History. “We are excited for this first community event to get folks out to explore the fascinating historical landscape all around us here in Waco.”
The Waco History app, which is available for free in both Android and iOS formats, contains entries on people, events, and locations important to Waco history. From the ALICO building to the Waco Black Navigators (a Texas Colored League baseball team) to the “Crash at Crush,” the app documents Waco’s rich and colorful history through stories, images, oral histories, and video.
The Waco Founding scavenger hunt start time is between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m., with teams departing from the Waco History booth at the Farmers’ Market. Winners will receive prizes in several categories from local vendors. Teams can sign up at the booth on the day of the event.
