Professor Jamie Van Eyck and Baylor Music Students Bring Poetry into Song for 2026 Browning Day Celebration

April 20, 2026

As part of its annual Browning Day celebration, the Armstrong Browning Library & Museum will feature Associate Professor of Voice, Charles W. Evans Chair in Voice, and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, Dr. Jamie Van Eyck, and her students from the Baylor School of Music in the McLean Foyer of Meditation for a lecture-recital, “The year’s at the spring: A Celebration of Songs Set to the Poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning,” on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 3:30 p.m. CDT on the campus of Baylor University and online via Zoom Webinar. In addition, this celebration will commence the observance of the 75th anniversary of the Armstrong Browning Library & Museum.

“I’m excited for our Browning Day audience to experience the poetry of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning as it resonates far beyond the printed page,” said Eyck. “Guests will hear how the Brownings’ vivid imagery and expressive language inspired song composers across generations.”

Dr. Jamie Van Eyck earned her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her Master of Music degrees in Vocal Performance and Vocal Pedagogy from the New England Conservatory of Music. Dr. Jamie Van Eyck has an active performance career that includes the Tanglewood Music Festival, Santa Fe Opera, Ojai Festival, Bard Music Festival, and Princeton Festival. She has been a soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, American Bach Soloists, and more.

“Our talented Baylor student singers and faculty pianists will bring these texts to life, revealing how poetry and music together deepen meaning, emotion, and expression,” Eyck said.

This event is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception in the Cox Reception Hall. CAE Credit is available for Baylor students who attend the event. Browning Day is made possible by the support of the Guardian Angels organization of the Armstrong Browning Library & Museum.
