Experience

Dave Nelson joined Baylor in 2022 as director of Baylor University Press. Previously, he served for a decade as acquisitions editor for Baker Academic and Brazos Press. As director of BUP, Dave oversees every aspect of the Press’s day-to-day publishing operations and long-term planning, forecasting, and strategy. He also acquires around half of BUP’s titles.

Dave speaks widely on topics in publishing, leading workshops on campus and at professional society gatherings. Each spring semester, he offers a course on publishing to Baylor undergraduates interested in learning about the profession. 

A scholar of twentieth-century Protestant theology, Dave has contributed numerous chapters and articles to books and journals and is the author or editor of several books, including Jüngel: A Guide for the Perplexed (2020) and the T&T Clark Handbook to Modern Theology, co-edited with Philip G. Ziegler (2026).
