Jessie Small

Jessie graduated Magna Cum Laude with her B.A. in Organizational Communication from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2005. She began working at a nationally ranked science and history museum while in college. She spent nine years working in various roles. Including an Exhibit Interpretive Staff, Family Science Night Facilitator, Membership Facilitator and after graduation, as the Guest Experience Manager. In her role as the Guest Experience Manager, she was over the Box Office, Omni Theater Ushers, School Group Hosts and Seasonal Exhibit Staff for Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination. She stepped away from full-time work to be home while starting and raising her family.  With a move to Waco and her youngest starting pre-K she stepped back into full-time work. She has been back in Museums at the Mayborn Museum since 2021. The years here have rounded out her Visitor Servies experience as Jessie joyfully serves as the Mayborn Museum Store Assistant Manager.

Working in Museum’s has fostered a love of informal learning. She finds the principles that guide work in Museums go hand in hand with her natural curiosity and desire to learn and see unique things the world has to offer. She met her husband, Alan, while working at that first museum. Together with their four children they love to tinker, explore and make messes.
