Treasures from Baylor’s Special Collections Explored During Virtual "Speed Panel" Event

October 15, 2020

On Friday, October 30 from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., the Baylor Libraries will present a virtual "speed panel" hosted on Zoom.

"Pictures, Portraits & Snapshots: Glimpses into Baylor's Special Libraries" will feature treasures from Baylor's Armstrong Browning Library; Institute for Oral History; Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society; The Texas Collection; and W. R. Poage Legislative Library. Ten panelists will each present a particular item from these special collections for three minutes. Following these "speed" presentations, the panelists will participate in a Q&A and discussion about their experiences working with the Baylor Libraries special collections.

“For the first time, we have invited individuals from across the world to showcase exceptional objects they uncovered in their Baylor research. These range from 19th century British hair-work and the music of Waco’s own ‘Old Man River’ Jules Bledsoe to the sacrifices of a Russian priest and the legendary Texas ‘Crash at Crush.’," said Kathy Hillman, event coordinator and Director of Baptist Collections and Library Advancement & Director of the Keston Center for Religion, Politics, and Society. "The fast moving format will leave listeners ready for more.”

The panelists featured at the event are:

  • Stephanie Boddie, Baylor University
  • Betsy Brody, Collin College
  • Wallace Daniel, Mercer University
  • Chet Edwards, Baylor University
  • Heather Hind, University of Exeter & Bristol
  • Cheri Larsen Hoeckley, Westmont College
