Kevin A. Morrison, professor of British Literature at Henan University, will present his lecture on Robert Browning’s 1855 poem, The Guardian Angel: A Picture at Fano, exploring how Browning "refined his sensory alertness to and perceptual engagement with historical materiality." The lecture will take place on April 27, at 3:30 p.m. at the Armstrong Browning Library and Museum. Conversation and a reception will follow the lecture. This event is free and open to the public, in-person or through Zoom. For Baylor students, CAE credit is available for in-person attendees.

Morrison is a founder of the Society for Global Nineteenth-Century Studies and currently serves as its president. He is also the editor and co-editor of the society’s journal and book series.

“We are thrilled to have Professor Morrison as our Browning Day speaker and to learn more about his research on Robert Browning’s Guardian Angel,” director of the Armstrong Browning Library & Museum Jennifer Borderud said. “This poem is particularly significant to the ABL, serving as inspiration for both The Fano Club and the Library’s patron organization, the Guardian Angels.”

“Few institutions in the academic world are more esteemed among nineteenth-century studies scholars than the Armstrong Browning Library & Museum. I am honored to have been asked to deliver this year's Browning Day lecture,” Morrison said.
